  • This clip was captured with my digital camera by filming the clip of Last Life in the Universe on youtube. It was a quick way of shortening to the length I wanted. The camera noise is left there on purpose.

    Angela’s Ashes
tunelight © 2001 Video: Alexander Ng, Sunghun Kang, and Damien Borowik Sound: Stuart jones

Author Peter Matthiessen, who became friendly with McCourt after “Angela’s Ashes” came out, said he was “stunned” when he read it. “I remember thinking, ‘Where did this guy come from?” Matthiessen said. “His book was so good, and it came out of nowhere.” (via Huffingtonpost obit)

“It was only when I felt I could finally distance myself from my past that I began to write about what happened.”

Frank McCourt, rest in peace! I think his writing made me a better person. (that is a rather large order) He really could tell a story, a personal, disastrous, story and somehow guide the reader with a seamless wisdom. Paul Hasegawa Overacker

I interviewed him for an hour or so about two years ago. He was not sweet or grandfatherly or playing up his old country Irish roots — he was a driven, determined man who talked at length about how power corrupts, how authority, especially religious authority, can twist and ruin people’s lives, and how you have to find joy through decency, justice and a fiery commitment to telling the truth. I liked him immensely and reread all of his work with more attention. I realized that for all their humor, his books are intense and pointed efforts to redress the wrongs of the past and save people in the present from their desire to be told what to do. posted by Matthew Stopheles (Metafilter)

    Following Sun, Moon & MasterBirds

    Sounddex from jtwine spacedoutscreen1
Jurgen has new sound works – just follow the sound and sight of one screen flickering.
The second image on his post looks like the I Ching, alas one line too many (7 instead of 6) – that is jtwine’s psychic and spiritual line drawing.

I have created bird singing (the real deal) in my garden videos for the silent twitterer whose only sound they make is by their 10 fingers. (Follow Milawaukee, follow Osaka) The twitter sounds authoritarian, a few goes to extreme of refusing to follow. The diamond heist artist follows only 10 institutions.
    He twittered,

Sorry my mind has been spinning for a few months and I’m getting butterflies thinking about the auction.

The I Ching 17 is SUI the following.

Sui indicates that you should lead by example rather than just telling everyone what to do.

Get off your office chair and take a deep breath. Follow and listen to Master Birds, turn up the sound.

    Birds sing for Moon –
Blind following is evil – the independent minded and enlightened people hate following and followers. However, it is good to follow certain instructions – like follow the signs to the bathroom, otherwise you might get arrested for being a pervert.

    Chipmunk on the brickschipmunk2

We spotted Wendy’s ballotry ballon floating in the mountains or a chatty cowboy riding backward talking stories last year. Recently we had cops and police cars visiting the desert mountains disturbing the quails, snakes, chipmunks, rabbits and roadrunners living in the desert.

Tennessee’s ‘Little Houdini’ revives the outlaw legend
Supporters say Chris Gay is a modern Robin Hood. Lawmen call him “a little thief, a little con.”

Mr. Gay’s much-publicized prison-break in 2007 to reach his dying mama‘s side failed, but only after he led authorities on a five-state, five-day chase that ended with him being arrested driving the country singer Crystal Gayle’s stolen tour bus in Florida.

    Klaus Nomi’s Valentine’s Day

    Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Treat yourself a Klaus Nomi flash animation klausgif

Klaus Nomi sings The Cold Song by Henry Purcell (six months before his death, he performed in Munich – now on youtube).

He came from outer space, to save the human race. (The Nomi Song) You can order this film at netflix for instant viewing.

Update:The Boom Is Over. Long Live the Art!

The best art was subversive, but in very un-’60s, nonideological ways. When, at midnight, you heard Klaus Nomi, with his bee-stung black lips and robot hair, channeling Maria Callas at the Mudd Club, you knew you were in the presence of a genius deviant whose very life was a political act. Flarf and Snark flarfsnark
My Geisha Cacti are posing as Flarf and Snark. They have been out of work and were not getting enough attention from the public. In real life they are neither flarfy nor snarky, they enjoy being competent, useful and being professional.

Flarf is in glory hole according to Gary Sullivan

Defuge Flarf – don’t know who made this tape. Not by Alan Sondheim

The texts are mine, defuge is a concept I’ve worked with, but I have no idea who did the video – wish I did – Alan (via email)

And, of that word, defuge, he writes elsewhere:

fetishization transformed into discard, disgust, the image no longer working, _that_ body used up in masturbation. It is so common that a word is necessary here, the _defuge,_ defuse / refuge / deluge / refuse, de-light, de-flower. Rhyme patterns, frames, defuges; it is the defuge that draws the poem forward beyond return
